Information for 2012/2013

Loughborough University is delighted to announce full-fee scholarships for international full-time taught postgraduate students who are currently domiciled (permanently living) in Africa.

These will be known as the Loughborough University Graduate School Development Trust Africa Scholarships. The scholarships will cover 100% of the course fees for your chosen postgraduate taught course for one year (replacing any Departmental or Loughborough University scholarships or bursaries you may already have been awarded).

The scholarships are being funded through a combination of generous external funding and University funds. The University will award a limited number of scholarships and the standards required are very high.

Students will be expected to fund their travel and maintenance costs through other sources.

Australia Government Scholarships to African countries


As part of the Australian Government’s increasing engagement in Africa, Australia Awards in Africa (AAA) offer study opportunities at post-graduate level to candidates from eligible African countries. The scholarships are offered at Masters level for up to two years as well as short professional development courses of up to three months. There are also limited opportunities for PhD studies in Agriculture-related disciplines.

Australia is committed to developing the capacity and leadership skills of Africans so they can effectively contribute to development in their home countries. The scholarships, which are implemented by the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID), are part of Australia’s effort to assist African countries realise the Millennium Development Goals. They also help build institutional and people-to-people linkages.

Australian Development Scholarships (ADS) in Africa provide opportunities for people from selected countries to undertake Post-graduate diploma or Masters degree programs in Australia. This program does not currently include undergraduate or doctorate studies.

ADS have replaced most scholarships previously offered by AusAID in Africa, namely the Nelson Mandela Scholarships and Australian Development Cooperation Scholarships (ADCOS).

The National Doctoral Programme of Advanced Diagnostic Technologies and Applications (DIA-NET) has 4 open positions for four year doctoral training – for 2012-2015.

” DIA-NET provides funding of 13 770 €/year for salary (including side costs) and the supervisor is responsible for arranging funding for the remaining part of the salary.  The salary for the positions will be based on the salary system of the Finnish universities. The basic salary is based on level 2 corresponding to 1867,48 €/month. In addition, a personal share is paid varying from 0% to 46% depending on the performance level.

The applicant must not be a member of an other doctoral program. Admission requirements also include that the applicants should have a higher academic degree in a diagnostics-related field or graduate in the near future. In addition it is expected that the application introduces collaboration between different partners (academic, industrial, or other scientific community related).

The following documents should be attached to the free form application:

  1. Applicant’s curriculum vitae, including education and work experience.
  2. A research plan approved by the supervisor (in English; max. 5 pages excluding abstract and references; instructions at www.sci.utu.fi/biokemia/opiskelu/tutkijakoulut/Instructions.html).

  4. A plan signed by the main supervisor explaining how the remaining part of the salary is planned to be covered.

Europe:12 OPEN PhD Fellowship POSITIONS

The positions are funded by the European Commission in the framework of the FP7 Marie Curie Initial Training Network. The Marie-Curie-Training Network MagnIM announces 12 OPEN PhD POSITIONS.

Your application should consist of
  • a CV which explains the scientific education
  • a list of courses which were attended during university
  • a list of skills which were acquired during university or elsewhere
  • a documentation of your English skills (f.e. by a TOEFL, IELTS or an equivalent test)
  • list of publications
Starting date of the positions between 01.04.2012 and 01.08.2012 (duration limited to 3 years). MARITIME SYSTEMS MASTER’S DEGREE FELLOWSHIPS

The United States Homeland Security is offering a scholarship for the study of Maritime Systems. Below is the announcement:

“The objective of the fellowship program is to enhance the knowledge base, technical skills and leadership capabilities of our nation’s future maritime security workforce.

To be considered an applicant for the fellowship program, students must meet the following criteria:
• Be a US Citizen.
• Have a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.30 or better.
• Possess, or be in the process of completing, an undergraduate degree in Engineering or Science by May 2012.
• Commit to a minimum of one year of employment in the homeland security workforce following completion of the Master’s degree program.
• Formally admitted, or in the process of applying, into the Stevens Master’s degree program in Maritime Systems.
Students from underrepresented communities are encouraged to apply.”

ONLINE SUBMISSION INTERFACE WILL BE AVAILABLE ON 09th SEPTEMBER, 2011 ONWARDS

University Grants Commission invites online applications for the award of Post-
Graduate Merit Scholarship for University Rank Holders for the academic session 2011-
13 with the purpose of supporting post-graduate education through scholarships to such
students, who have secured Ist or IInd position at Under-graduate level in any
University/degree awarding Intuition.

Candidates admitted in a post-graduate first year regular non-professional degree
courses in any recognized university or a post-graduate college during the current year
i.e. 2011-12 are eligible.

Selection will be made by an Expert Committee on the basis of applications, which are
complete in all respects, received through online mode within the stipulated time frame.
The guidelines of the scheme, detailed terms and conditions of the scholarship,
eligibility criteria etc. may be seen on UGC website i.e. www.ugc.ac.in

The applications may be submitted only through ONLINE mode latest by 30th
September, 2011 by logging in website www.ugc.ac.in/urh
The decision of the Commission with regard to selection of candidates for the award of
scholarships shall be final.

NOTE:

scholarship in any circumstances whatsoever.
